Every fifth workplace Hordaland may disappear as a result of cuts in the oil sector, the report from the county.

For every tenth oil job being gone, six other jobs disappear. According to the report, more than 28,000 people in the county’s work related to the oil and gas industry today. In addition, 19,000 other workplaces depending on the activity in this sector.

The report thus shows that almost every fifth job in the county is directly or indirectly dependent on what happens in the oil and gas industry, writes Bergens Tidende.

– This is not very surprising, but it is striking to get it documented, said County Tom Christer Nilsen (H).

According to Statistics Norway, in 2010 produced goods and services 403 billion in Hordaland. Oil and gas sector accounted directly for 104 billion of this amount. According to the new report from county will ripple effects stand for an additional 33 billion. Overall this means that 34 percent of all production in Hordaland is related to the oil and gas industry. Retail and wholesale, as well as advisory services, constitute the largest industries that may be affected by ripple effects.

– This report documents how important this industry is for businesses and jobs in Hordaland and in Western Norway. What happens in this sector is therefore extremely important for our whole society, says Nilsen.
