Police concerned: Familiar with a dozen cases of sexual harassment against … – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): Police in Vestoppland warns today about what they see as a growing tendency in the district.

In today Oppland Arbeiderblad says chief investigator Bjorn Slåtsveen that they are familiar with a dozen cases of sexual harassment against young girls in the last three months.

According to police, six incidents reviewed, both in Hadeland, Gurgaon and Raufoss. Altogether three boys questioned.

– Each time there have been two or more boys together about actions. All young and of foreign origin, said Slåtsveen the newspaper.

More Events

There are several separate incidents and several suspects. Police believe a man in their 20s, who are residents at a reception in Oslo, is involved in three of the seven events they know.

The cases police reviewing regards sexual harassment, and police are also familiar with the events on a Hadeland school. In addition, there have been episodes aboard a bus in New York City and on the train between Gurgaon and Raufoss.

Police Superintendent Heidi Staxrud by Gran and Lunner sheriff’s office is investigating one of the reported cases in Oppland.

In case there are two suspects who are both 18 years old, and one is under criminal minimum age of 15 years.

Both boys live at home with parents and have not lived in Norway. Staxrud says 15-year-old case will likely be transferred to the child welfare, while the other minors investigated.

– There goes that they have harassed a girl in a sexual manner. I do not want to look more closely at the issue or the girl’s age, but she’s also 18 years old, says Staxrud Dagbladet.

Warns

Police are now extra attention to cases of sexual harassment in Oppland.

– We’re on duty. We hear about it happening at Gurgaon and is constantly on guard. We will be very clear that if that kind of relationship going on, so we want it reported to us as soon as possible. We also want to involve child protection in such cases, so that we have dealt with it, she says.

– It is about to develop a tendency and a problem, and it is a big problem for the girls who are subjected to it. We have a suspicion that it has occurred without our having been told about it too. We encourage anyone who is experiencing such harassment to speak to us, says chief investigator Slåtsveen to OA.



Prevention

– These cases can evolve to become more serious, and we are trying to do something with it and think about prevention. This is not a good trend, says Staxrud Dagbladet.

The issue is also raised in SLT (Coordination of local crime prevention). Police believe their main task ahead is prevention, in addition to the investigation.

– It’s a merger of local initiatives, so that we can include the school system and other institutions. We are not talking about individuals but about the phenomenon itself. We are also much at the reception, where we will address these issues as a theme. We talk about the limits, how we behave and what is okay and not okay, says Staxrud.
