(Dagbladet): Nearly 3,500 members in 363 hotels and restaurants in six counties went on strike this weekend after a break in the mediation between the Federation and the Norwegian Hospitality Association.
Yesterday notified employees escalation from Saturday, with new 2447 members in 209 businesses in six additional counties. The dispute is about the addition to the low-paid and the right to local negotiations.
Negotiation Director Jostein Hansen NHO tourism and criticizing employees’ demands for local negotiations.
– There must be someone who has not been joined by the economic situation Norway is in , said chief negotiator Jostein Hansen in Norwegian Hospitality when the strike was a fact.
Stordalen boasted knallår
It is uncertain whether Hansen were joined by hotel king Petter Great valley knallår. In a cash flow of almost 1.2 billion last year, went Stordalen last week out in Finansavisa and said he had his best year ever.
– Hotel company posted a record profit last year. I am sure that we get another record year. It is certainly the goal, said Stordalen told the newspaper.
Hotel Operations, property and investments brought Stordalen a net turnover of 8.26 billion in 2015. He had a profit before tax of 633 million and a cash flow of 1.17 billion.
Several of those strikes are employed at hotels owned by Stordalen. Club Manager at Quality Hotel Edvard Grieg in Bergen, Merete Sutton, are on strike, and is angered that Norwegian Hospitality does not go with the employees to negotiate slightly better wages when hoteliers have such good results to show for it.
– Members of Fellesforbundet has a starting salary of 24,000 crowns a month. That they will not come to meet us and introduce local negotiations is incomprehensible. It is almost beyond belief that some can be as unscrupulous and cynical. It is an insult to the staff who work and struggle, says Sutton, referring among other things to the hotel kings Petter Stordalen and Olav Thon.
– Strike Will is great
Negotiation Leader of the Federation, Clas Delp, nor not satisfied that the employers are not willing to go with the requirements when the profits of companies are so big.
– Norwegian Hospitality Association believes that employees in the hotel industry should have a moderate settlement, but it is completely clear that the employees have a right to expect something more when they see that kind of performance, says Delp and shows including the Great Valley corporate earnings from last year.
– The Choice Hotels, we know that you have the finances to negotiate, and it is why the strike will is so great among the employees, he said.
After that the negotiations broke down on Saturday, there has been no contact between the parties and iflølge Delp is not the definitive answer on who should take initiative to start new negotiations.
Thon: – Unreasonable demands
LO leader Gerd Kristiansen accused including Stordalen and Thon for not expressing support for their employees in the conflict when she held appeal to strikers hotel and restaurant workers in Oslo on Tuesday, according to NTB.
– When his own employees – you engaged his entire business – ask for fair treatment when he sits perfectly still, with knitted hat on, she said, with link to Olav Thon.
Olav Thon think it totally unreasonable to impose local negotiations within the hotel industry, such Unions requires.
– If one were to negotiate locally at 100 different places, so you will be caught in a bureaucracy is utterly hopeless, says Thon said.
– margins in the hotel industry is so small that it is not for nothing that the hotel after hotel closed down and become refugee centers or homes, he said.
Executive Director of Thon hotels, Morten Thorvaldsen, also rejects criticism .
– We operate a person demanding industry with small margins. It is simply operationally difficult to find a solution to their requirement, says Thorvaldsen Dagbladet.
– What do you think about that you are called for unscrupulous?
– We do not feel that characteristic. Beyond that I have no more comments.
Dagbladet has not managed to obtain Olav Thon. Petter Stordalen will not comment on the matter of respect for the process between the parties, writes his communications chief, Betina Flatland, in a text message.
