(Dagbladet): Total 13 people were injured and over 50 evacuated in a severe fire in an apartment building in Fredrikstad on Wednesday.
Three of the injured are police officers who got in his smoke in connection with evacuation efforts. Nine residents were driven to the emergency room, and one person was taken to the emergency room at Østfold Hospital with burns.
– I have not got the message that someone is severely injured in connection with the fire. Smoke divers from the Fire Department has now completed pinpointing the block, and have not found any people inside the building, said police efforts leader on site, Aina Mykland, to Dagbladet.
The police was notified about the fire in Brick Works Road 15, at Old Fredrikstad Stadium, at 23.40 on Tuesday. All emergency services who managed the place, where they were met by large flames from the roof structure on the block.
Uninhabitable
It was quickly initiated evacuation of the block, as well as neighboring block and several other properties in the immediate vicinity.
– We feared that the fire would spread. It was intense flames and extreme heat, said operations manager Paul Horne in Eastern Police District told Dagbladet.
More than 50 people were evacuated from the two blocks, according to Horne.
– there is major damage to the building. The fire department will probably work on site throughout the night, says Horne.
Police hope they can get access to the building during the morning hours, so they can initiate the investigation work.

17 homeless
The people who were evacuated from the surrounding buildings have been moving back home, but 17 residents in the fire-damaged block is now homeless.
The police announced early on a lot of smoke in the area and asked residents in the area to close windows and vents to prevent seepage of smoke. Photos and videos of the fire shows that the flames were visible from most parts of Fredrikstad.
Jobs onsite
Emergency Operator Roger Andersen at Fire East confirmed to Dagbladet at 1 o’clock that the fire department had a demanding job to gain control of the flames.
– We work with extinguish now. The last message I got was that they still worked to evacuate people from the building, he says to Dagbladet.
Fredrikstad municipality’s crisis team is engaged, and helps with finding accommodations for the evacuees.
