This goes against lighter and warmer times – it also means that you must remember to set the clock one hour further ahead.
For many it is not as easy to remember which way the clock should be set.
A simple rule of thumb is that you should ask at the “summer”. This makes it easier to set the clock one hour back in the fall and an hour forward in the spring.
Summertime means there will be one hour less sleep for most of us the night of Sunday. Going out on the town you need to be aware that the nightlife closes an hour earlier than usual due to the summer time.
Introduced during World
DST was originally introduced by Germany and Austria under WWI, other European countries quickly followed. The aim was to utilize the daylight better in the period of a day normally awake.
In Norway we have had DST repeatedly. The first time it was introduced daylight saving time in Norway was in 1916, since it was also daylight during WWII. During the war years from 1940 until 1942, we actually daylight during winter. It was however not until 1980 that the current arrangement where we are at in the spring and the fall came in place.
Dropped winter time
Not everyone is as happy with the summer and winter. The hour extra evening sun in the summer has a price – for Sunday of being fall evenings suddenly darker. Our neighbors in Russia dropped the scheme in 2011. The Russians have not needed to run the clock since summer time began three years and a half ago, writes NTB.
– This disturbs really the human biorhythms. It’s just annoying. Whether playing the people themselves, or so they wake up early and do not know what to do with the extra hour, said the former president Dmitry Medvedev told AFP at the time.
