(Dagbladet): Porsgrunn man Lamin Samateh (37) has reviewed a woman for having called him “negro” in the city. The woman Reviewed wanted to Settle with him conflicting advice, but it has 37-year-old denied.

– This is 2016 and not 800s. I want her to be punished for racism and not get away with this, said Lamin told Dagbladet.

It was Varden who first publicized case.

– Repeatedly

The incident took place in Porsgrunn center just before Christmas. Lamin said he and his cousin – both originating from Gambia – decided to have a snack at a fast food.

– We sat and waited for our food when a woman on the phone turned and said “negro” to us, says 37-year-old.

According to Norwegian-Gambians used woman 20-30 years old word repeatedly.

– It was said in a hateful and derogatory way, and I asked her to stop because it is illegal to call someone “negro.” She replied that it was not dangerous, he said.

It all degenerated; a Norwegian couple took Lamin in defense and ended up in a scuffle with the woman. Although he was not involved in the physical confrontation.

Refuse sake

According Varden have woman 20-30 years old denied that she said “negro” repeatedly, and claims she only said ” what’s up, nigga “once.

– I have not seen a bit too much on gangster films, she explained to the police.

Kjell Ove Ljosåk, police lawyer in South-Eastern Police District, confirms that the matter is at their table.

– The now rests with the prosecuting attorney for review, he says to Dagbladet.

Ljosåk informs that the Reviewed woman has been inside for questioning and that she and Lamin have very different perceptions of what happened.

– She says she has made statements that are perceived completely different than they were intended, says police lawyer.

He confirmed that the woman got in touch to apologize to Lamin, but he has rejected this.

Past Episode

Lamin even explains that he would like the Court to take decide whether the current wording is within the law or not.

– I have children who are half Gambian, half Norwegian. They must be spared to hear such a thing, he says to Dagbladet.

This is not the first time Lamin believe themselves exposed to prejudice based on race. Last summer 37-year-old, who works at SFO at a school in Porsgrunn, told to bring one of the kids at the library. There he was approached by a police patrol on suspicion of child abduction.

The situation was resolved and Lamin got an apology from the police. He stressed that he did not experience Grenland as a special rasisisk area.

– There is not much racism here. Aside from library case and this latest episode I have not experienced unpleasantness, says 37-year-old.

– Slaveord

Ervin Kohn, vice chairman of the Anti-Racist Center and head of the Jewish community, believes it is completely unacceptable to call someone “negro” today.

– it is not doing ok, and completely outdated. “Negro” is a slaveord, used by slave traders in West Africa, and one finds no younger than 30 years who take the word in his mouth, says Kohn told Dagbladet.

– The propelled the people that say “nigga” within a certain environment.

– Then you have to in that case say it even for it to be within, says Kohn, and points out that Norwegian law already has ruled that calling someone “negro” is punishable.

Sentenced

In 2014, a Stavanger-man convicted for having shouted “There are too many Negroes, I hate Negroes” in the town, according to Stavanger Aftenblad. On the other hand, a man was acquitted in the Oslo District Court to have said “Damn negro, I’ll take you ‘to a ticket inspector on the subway – because he was dark-skinned, reports TV 2

– What with the debate over whether Pippi Longstocking’s father shall not be referred to as “negro king” anymore?

– There’s another discussion. What was written in the books of the 60s, is something quite different from what is said to the people in 2016, says Kohn.

– More than

Language Professor Finn-Erik Vinje sets on its side of understanding that the word “negro” ends as criminal.

– Wayward people are not concerned about things like that. There are more than going to court with this, says language professor told Dagbladet.

Vinje says “negro” has a neutral meaning, in the same way as “gypsy”.

– All words can surely become epithets with the right tone layer. In Hamsun becomes a docker convicted of having called a colleague of “professor,” he said.
