- Church asylum is a matter for the churches, not government – NRK

– If the government now will allow the police can invade the church room to bring out people in church asylum, it will be a provocative political decision that I would strongly advise against.

It says Dørum as a even campaigned for open folk church and was elected to the Oslo diocesan council.

– This is a matter for the churches, not the government. Nave is
holy, he adds.

Rated never changing instructions

Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice Jøran Kallemyr (FRP) said to NRK earlier on Saturday that the government is considering removing instruction obliging the police not to enter actively in churches after the refugees who wish to avoid being sent back to Russia has received church asylum in Kirkenes church this week.

State Secretary Joran Kallemyr (FRP) said that they could give the police permission to go into churches if the Church does not” go in active dialogue with the police. “

The instruction from 1993. It says that the police should not fetch the people with the power of churches unless the church asks for it themselves or those who live there, is charged with any crime.

Dørum, who was justice minister when it came mass refugees to Norway in connection with Kosovo War, points out that they also then had kirkeasylanter, but that he never considered changing instructions.

He also points out that the instruction has passed for 23 years without anyone governments have changed it.

– The most extreme sense, church asylum civil society safety valve,
Dørum says.

Knut Arild Hareide says that nobody wants that church asylum scheme should be widespread, but the challenge is particularly great today.

Hareide: – Over Reaction

Also KrF leader Knut Arild Hareide is highly critical of government’s desire to remove church asylum-instruction, calling it all an overreaction.

– When there are only a handful of people sitting in church asylum as it is an overreaction that they say they want to remove the entire scheme . This is going against the church believes, he says to NRK.

– This is a scheme of historical roots, and it is not a big challenge today.

He admits that scheme with church asylum is demanding, but is Agrees with Dørum in that it is a safety valve.

– There is no one who wants the church asylum will be a widespread scheme, but it is also a safety valve, and it should not happen use of force in sacred space, he said.

– KrF going to be clearly opposed to this if the government proposes it.
