NRK said Saturday the story of Linda Akselsen Bjerke, who bought eggs at Rema 1000 and hatched out two chickens on the kitchen counter.

Rema 1000 says it should not be possible, but Professor Birger Svihus at the Norwegian environmental and Life Sciences University says, however, that fertilized eggs are quite common.

He believes it is almost impossible to detect even though the eggs rayed.

– I strongly doubt that providers may be able to see if an egg is fertilized when it is passed on, says Svihus NRK.

He also sees no reason to remove the embryos before they reach consumers.

– There is absolutely nothing wrong with a fertilized egg. It is as healthy to eat as regular eggs, says Svihus who hails egg’s properties on the university’s website.

He said that consumers themselves can tell if an egg is fertilized.

– When has tapped an egg, you can find a white spot on the yolk. Once the egg is fertilized, you can find a dark dot inside this white spot. This is the egg that has begun to divide, explains Svihus.

He notes that it is completely harmless.
