(Dagbladet): Government adds Sørlandsbanen, Dovrebanen, Nordlandsbanen and several other train routes out to tender. A total of eight new rail lines laid out for tender.
The toughest competition for NSB probably comes from MTR, a Chinese train giant in vigorously advancing. The Chinese have previously turned NSB for contracts in Sweden.
On government tenders website Doffin notified it that the following railway lines put out to tender by the Government through Ministry of Transport.
Chinese competition
The Chinese court giant MTR and Deutsche Bahn Arriva is one of the companies somv expected to have their hands on the Norwegian train passengers.
– It’s posted notice of two packets properly contested, one for Sørlandsbanen, and for what we call “diesel world” plus Dovrebanen Oslo-Trondheim, confirms NSB chief Geir Isaksen told Aftenposten.
Isaksen reject that tender news came as a surprise to NSB. NSB boss also believes that his company has good advantages on any competitors as the company knows the routes very well from before.
Lost in Sweden
Chinese MTR recently won battle for rail services in Sweden, where they just beat NSB’s subsidiary Tågkompaniet. MTR also controls the subway in Stockholm and has expanded greatly in recent years.
The following railway lines to reach out to tender: Sørlandsbanen, Jærbanen, Dovrebanen, Oslo-Trondheim, Rørosbanen, Nordlandsbanen, Trøndelag Commuter Rail (Trondheim-Steinkjer) , Meråkerbanen and Raumabanen
There are also new round of Gjøvikbanen, as NSB won when first Norwegian passenger stretch was exposed a few years back. The announcement comes about one year.
– With this we want to achieve an improved customer offer and competition to deliver the best services to travelers. This form of solution is previously made on Gjøvikbanen and has been successful, says Transport Minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen said.
