Oslo Catholic diocese goes to a civil lawsuit against the state after the Ministry of Culture Friday rejected diocesan appeal of membership cheating case.
Oslo Catholic diocese say they are not surprised by the Ministry of Culture’s decision to reject their appeal the county’s decision of June last year.
– We believe there is no basis in law for the Ministry conclusion. We therefore wish to have the case highlighted by the courts, says administrative manager Lisa Wade in Oslo Catholic diocese said in a statement.
– Some members were recorded using a method that was not good enough. We have apologized and cleaned up. But even if it were made misclassification, we have never registered for many. Therefore, we believe that we have not got too much in grants for the period, said Wade, who is contesting that their method of obtaining members was illegal.
Culture Ministry announced Friday that they do not take the Catholic Church complain to follow and states that the church illegally received at least 40 million too much in state aid.
in June last year struck County Governor of Oslo and Akershus stated that the diocese had received over 40 million too much in state aid by use an incorrect way to register new members. The diocese was however disagrees County Governor’s decision and appealed the decision to the Ministry of Culture.
The decision applies only to state aid of approximately NOK 40 million. For the same members have Kommune Norway paid out a similar amount. The diocese can therefore expect that the municipalities will reclaim overpaid support.
