UDI: Nothing suggests that last year’s asylum situation will repeat itself – Aftenposten

– The number of asylum seekers throughout the first half were lower than one week in October last year, says Forfang at a press conference Tuesday.

1678 people sought asylum in Norway from January to June.

Also, compared with the spring of 2015, before the large influx of refugees, the arrivals very low.

– there have been 64 percent fewer first half of this year compared with the same period last year, says Forfang.

He said that “nothing indicates that last year’s asylum situation will repeat itself” .In last arrived over 31,000 asylum seekers to Norway.

Sweden receives ten times as many as Norway

This year’s arrival figures are the lowest since 1997.

Although the summer and autumn is traditionally the peak season for asylum arrivals, do not think Forfang that last year’s high growth will recur. He stressed that it is due to uncertainty about the numbers.

– Sweden receives ten times as many asylum seekers as Norway. It shows that it is still possible to get all the way to Sweden and Norway to seek asylum here, says Forfang.

Despite this difference between Norway and Sweden, the Swedes have also experienced a very sharp decline in the number of asylum seekers. In June 2139 arrived asylum seekers Sweden. There is a third of the number who arrived a year earlier.

Forfang says the official forecast for this year’s arrivals in Norway are still 10,000 asylum seekers, but that there is considerable uncertainty about the numbers.

– Do not lay off several pitches now

He also says that there are still many unregistered migrants located on the European continent, which may affect arrival figures for Norway on.

– we must ensure that we can withstand a substantial growth while we must not have too large overcapacity, says Forfang.

With the uncertainty it is not right to terminate several reception centers, says UDI.

– We will have to see how this season develops first, says Forfang.

If the current low arrival numbers remain, however UDI denounce more bigger deals this fall.

So high was forecast

last year expected UDI a doubling in the number of asylum seekers in 2016, of the 31,145 who sought protection in 2015.

UDI preparing at between 10,000 and 100,000 asylum seekers, with 60,000 that budget figures and most likely.

Before the end led border control and instructions to reject asylum seekers from Russia to the the flow of asylum seekers stopped altogether.
