Hussaini came to Norway from Syria age of twelve. Now he is 26 years old and mean background as a refugee will be a force AUF’s next leader.
– I’m like any other Norwegian youth, but have enough with me some other perspectives on freedom and democracy in luggage. Syria and Norway are two very different countries, said Hussaini said. He is the first person from a minority background to make AUF leader.

Utøya
Hussaini was drawn into the AUF from a friend in 2006, was particularly anti-racism and climate engaged him at first.
– My family came as political refugees to Norway, and it has always been political conversations around the dinner table, he said.
Hussaini was not even present at Utøya on 22 July 2011, a date that was set Eskil Pedersen’s time as Labour Party leader.
– Eskil was a strong and unifying leader when AUF were at their most vulnerable, says Hussaini.
As a new AUF leader, he will have to adhere to the inflamed and demanding conflicts related to the reconstruction of Utøya.
– There is no denying that it’s difficult situation. For AUF, the goal is to take Utøya back, but I will listen carefully to the support group and other interested and hope to contribute to a collective solution, says Hussaini.
Many survivors react to reconstruction plans and believes AUF has gone too fast.
Climate Game
Mani Hussaini’s Labor Party representative in the council as well as the Jessheim Akershus County Council. He also met in Parliament as deputy.
Should Hussaini be elected as Labour Party leader, which by all accounts, the climate change issue be raised high.
– AUF will help to make the Labor redder and greener. Our task is to sharpen Aps climate policy so that it does not end up in clean speeches. I think the party’s new leader Jonas Gahr Støre has charted a new course in this matter, and he has our full support, says Hussaini, who is a student of innovation and technology at the University of Oslo.
Election Committee AUF has set Emilie Bersaas from Rogaland as deputy chair and Ragnhild Kaski from Finnmark Secretary General. Together, the new central committee counting 14 people.
– This is a strong central for AUF and a good fit for the organization, said the committee’s chair Truls Wickholm.
