Accused of adapting his statement to Parliament – Dagbladet.no

Telenor’s retired chairman Svein Aaser and former CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas had to wait long for the first hard attacks during the current Vimpelcom hearing SCSCA.

Both Abid Q. Raja (V) and Committee Chair Martin Kolberg (Ap) took especially Baksaas for themselves for not having told everything he knew during previous consultation – despite the fact that he had promised to tell all and would add confidentiality aside.

– Customizes explanation

– You will that we should believe that you at no time before 2014 had been hearing about this. Is it to be understood, asked an ongoing Raja.

– That’s it, confirmed Baksaas.
– I fully understand that you can later customize your explanation, because I have previously been defense lawyer, replied Raja.

When even seemed Martin Kolberg that it was for just over and asked Raja curb themselves.

This did not prevent Raja in letting it shine clearly through that he was not a second partying trust Baksaas’ explanation that he did not know about a concern in 2011, and other indications that might have been mentioned internally in Telenor.

– Customized not

– What do you think that none of this at no time has come to you, asked Raja, lightly acidic.

– for the Firstly I have not adapted to my explanation, began Baksaas, but was canceled.

– on duty has definitely there, said Raja and noted that Baksaas had previously admitted that he “should have been more precise” that he at the hearing in January 2015 said nothing about what he knew about the ongoing police investigation.

Baksaas did not answer directly, but referred to the investigation report from Deloitte.
I was criticized for my management style could be more holistic, but I do not know how, said Baksaas.

– There we would be accused of, was to frustrate the investigation, said Baksaas about why he told SCSCA the Dutch police’s ongoing investigation. He says he does shared with the Ministry of Industry.

– Extra strong

Kolberg took a somewhat more restrained form in his interrogation.

– Let’s talk properly about the situation, began Kolberg, and returned to what happened during the previous hearing, in January 2015.

– You knew when the case went to the hall, that the minister had all the information. It must the catch inwardly you are serious, said Kolberg.

It becomes particularly acute when both (Baksaas and Aaser), provides information that is not fullness-making, despite the fact that you said in the previous round that you let all the secrecy aside, said Kolberg.

– Correctly handled

Aaser replied that he had not talked about confidentiality, but that he and the board had been notified by the law firm Hjort that notification in 2011 about possible corruption in Vimpelcom had been handled correctly.

so as not Aaser any reason to go to the Minister of industry with the matter.

– I have repeatedly explained how the board reacted to the information from the Deer and that we concentrated on other things because this was not offense. But as soon as we saw that it evolved differently, informed we immediately minister, said Aaser.

Internal Committee-conflict

Telenor owned VimpelCom corruption payments to a dictator-daughter of Uzbekistan’s background today’s hearing, where it ahead has emerged significant differences between Conservative representative and deputy chairman of the committee Michael Tetszchner and committee leader Martin Kolberg.

the consultancy firm Deloitte’s investigation concluded criticism for the way notifications of corruption in Vimpelcom has been handled internally, and that it took too long before the information was disclosed to the former CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas, Board and industry Minister Monica Mæland.

in an earlier hearing in the same case in January 2015, the committee will get to the bottom where well – or poorly – Telenor peaks have kept economics minister Monica Mæland informed about the case and about Mæland has done what is expected of her.

as great interest is now around the inner strife in the Inspection and constitutional Committee. There, Michael Tetszchner sharply criticized the committee’s chairman Martin Kolberg’s eagerness to investigate conditions at Telenor.
