Riots after funeral in Baltimore – Aftenposten

– This is not okay. We have seven policemen who are injured. One of them is still unconscious. We will find those responsible for this and put them in jail.

Eric Kowalczyk, a representative of the Baltimore police, was visibly upset when he met the press late Monday night to give an update on the riots that still ongoing in parts of the city.

The clock 23.10 police officials that they have evacuated their wounded and that they receive medical treatment.

TV images from Baltimore shows furious protesters who jumps up and down on a broken police. Several other cars must be destroyed, and at least two of them are burned. Protesters have also gone away on a number of buildings in the area. Police also report looting.

Several people have been arrested, but the streets are in 23-time Norwegian time still full of angry people that create chaos and unrest.

The family would avoid violence

The riots broke out shortly after that 25-year-old Freddie Gray was buried at New Shiloh Baptist Church, with around 2,500 people attending. Gray was arrested April 12 and died a week later of extensive injuries he suffered in connection with the arrest.

Religious leaders and Grays own family made it clear during the funeral that they wanted violent riots as a reaction Grays death.



Threw stones and bottles

Still, it took a very short time before furious youths started throwing stones, bricks and bottles at the police cars and a bus at Mondawmin Mall, northwest of Baltimore.

– These youngsters were not at the funeral. This is not what we want, type a lawyer for the family on Twitter.

Police had a helicopter on site and shouted to the young people that they should leave the place, but they have yet overheard this. Reuters reports that the police came out with several 100 crews were pelted with stones and bottles. Police had batons, helmets and bulletproof vests.



Police received threat

Grays deaths has created a violent anger after several instances where black men are dead after clashes with police. Last week was held daily demonstrations, but these were largely peaceful.

Police in Baltimore lighted earlier Monday that they had received a credible threat that several gangs planned “to take out” policemen.
