- I remember unfortunately nothing – NRK

– I am not typical bluffs. I understand that people do not think that I do not remember. However, I want preferably remember. It’s pretty sad, saying the defendant and crying.

He explains in Lower Romerike District Court today.

The man in the 40s is charged with manslaughter on Tiril Alette Huser Wave (11) and Sara Christiane Holmedahl Sandmark (13).

The two friends died after being hit on January 11 last year. It happened when they were on tour with horse and sulky on road 229, four kilometers south of Bjørkelangen in Aurskog-Holand in Akershus.

Both girls suffered serious head injuries in the accident and was unconscious when they were flown to Ullevål hospitals. 11-year-old died of his injuries early Sunday January 12, while 13-year-old died about noon the same day.



– I do not remember what happened

The man did not acknowledge guilt for either negligently murder or negligent driving in Lower Romerike court. He has previously said that the only thing he remembers is a bang, but not how the accident occurred.

– I do not remember that I went to the car and put me into it, says accused in court .

Prosecutor Kare Kalvå pointed in court that defendant has experience as rally driving and asked the defendant if it is true that with the experience should be able to read the traffic well. He asks how it was possible not to avoid the horse carriage. The defendant replied that unfortunately he did not know.



Theory that he was dazzled

Defender Gunhild Lærum says her client after the accident has tried through talking with others to find out what happened.

The defendant says he has made up several theories about what may have happened.

– Have I been blinded by any light in oncoming lane and maybe not noticed horse cart at all? And not had enough space to run out? That’s what I’ve thought so much about – that I did not find a way to steer away from the horse carriage, said defendant rhetorically.



The parents of the two girls met before the court was set Friday morning.

Police undertook a field interrogation of the accused on the spot immediately after the accident. The interrogation is embodied in a report. There, he stated that he was trying to overtake a horse carriage, but that it came a car in the oncoming lane and that he then placed back in the same lane, according to the defendant’s defense counsel.

– After Having seen the place, I think that I would never have tried me on passing on this place, says the defendant.

– Do you have a theory which you are responsible? ask counsel .

– I hope everyone understands that stuff does not intentionally, he said.

The driver has previously explained to police that he is colorblind and struggling to distinguish some colors. He also testified that he regularly takes sedative drug Atax. Before the trial today he has taken a tablet.



– Have had it hard

– It is so tragic that I almost did not get explained it, saying the defendant.

The defendant struggling to explain themselves and must cancel several times. He says he has struggled with suicidal thoughts after the incident.

The defendant says that he has gained tremendous support in the village and that he regularly speaks with their general practitioner. The defendant says that his daughter has sung in unison with the two deceased girls.

– My family has had problems moving outside the door. There I feel strongly, telling the defendant.



Witness: Perceived that he was in shock

The first policeman who came to the place witnesses in court today.

– I perceived that the defendant was in shock. He was distanced gaze, he said.

The policeman said that it was cloudy, daylight onsite and normal winter conditions.

In review wrote policeman down that the accused attempted overtaking but interrupted and then failed to brake and drove the cart behind.

– There are an estimated events, says the policeman.

The policeman said that it seemed like the defendant blamed herself and said “why not, I drove into the ditch?”. This was not part of the interrogation, he adds.



Should the inspection

Earlier police excluded technical errors and drink driving as reasons the accident, and has stated that it is also not something that points toward the driver has been unwell before he ran into the girls.

– The one girl was thrown from the wagon, while the other was stuck in wagon, which landed in a field, explains the prosecutor.

The court did today see an overview of the accident site where the accident occurred. The road was icy at the accident date, but witnesses testified differently about how smooth it was.

Later today right on inspection at the scene.

The trial was postponed

The trial scheduled to start in mid-February, but had postponed. The reason was that the court-appointed expert, collision expert Erik Aanerud, disqualified himself in the matter because of family connections to counsel to one girl’s parents.

After the replacement of Aanerud in winter holds Arvid Aakre from NTNU in Trondheim appointed Lower Romerike District Court as a new expert in the matter. In March he conducted including a new reconstruction of the accident. His conclusions will be submitted to the court, which is administered by Judge Anja Bech.



It was laid down flowers, candles and teddy bear after the two friends Sara and Tiril was hit while they were traveling by horse and sulky.
