Claims of six months imprisonment after fatality – TV 2

The prosecutor Kåre Kalvå added the claim to six months jail for man in late 40s who is accused of negligently bildrap Sara Christiane Holmedahl Sandmark (13) and Tiril Alette Huser Wave ( 11) on Bjørkelangen in January last year.

The defendant does not acknowledge guilt and claims he does not remember anything from the accident or its aftermath.

The lawyer believes there are few mitigating information in the case. The girls died of head injuries after being hit by the van while they were traveling by horse and sulky.
Prosecutor found that the driver had tried to overtake the girls, but he had to cancel the maneuver when he saw a car coming cons. Then he drove straight into the horse carriage.
Besides the prison sentence let prosecutors also claim for confiscation of the driving license for four years.

In court, the man said he did not know why he tore the car into the ditch instead of hitting the horse carriage, when it got a car driving in the opposite direction.

He also said that he may have tried to overtake the girls and horse.

Immediately after the accident, he explained, however, that he tried to overtake, but then it got a car and drove toward the side again. His lawyer, Gunhild Lærum, asked why he court does not believe this.

– Are you bluffing? asked defender Gunhild Lærum, considering that he says he does not remember.

– I’m not really a bluff. When it says in the paper that some do not remember, so I do not believe it. But now, what I see in it yourself. I would preferably have remembered, and it’s really quite sad, the man said before he broke down in the witness box.
