Police in Norway have today only one helicopter base. It is located in Oslo. In addition, military helicopters located at Rygge in Østfold. Thus the police is highly vulnerable in the rest of the country. To increase the capacity of western and northern Norway leases therefore the Justice Ministry is now in private actors, reports TV2.
– On the west coast is the large distances, and in practice car the only option for police. That means in many cases that it is several hours before preparedness is at an adequate level during events. Therefore we enter now in a partnership with several players to take advantage of the resources that are already there, says Anundsen.
Ministry of Justice is in dialogue with Statoil, which has assisted in identifying what resources exist. Statoil leases currently in helicopter services from CHC Helikopter Service and Bristow Norway. Anundsen informs that the Ministry is also in dialogue with piloting, which operates three helicopters, among them one with base in Hammerfest. In addition he is in contact with a German company based in Sola.
– Thus we have access to potentially tens of helicopters if necessary, says Anundsen. (© NTB)
