YS fear that 20,000 Norwegian oil jobs disappear – Aftenposten

– Even with what we know, over 3,000 jobs lost or disappear. To that may be added, I do not ignore the fact that total 5,000 Statoil jobs lost through cuts rounds, said Teige Stavanger Aftenblad.

Statoil’s management has set a target that 900 positions will be cut in the business district Exploration & Production Norway (EPN). The cut is the latest in the series of similar messages from the group in recent years.

– The situation is dramatic, if one adds together the various figures, Teige.

1.250 jobs have already been cut Statoil, through flagging to low-cost countries. The company has also announced cuts of up to 1,400 jobs as part of the streamlining of the organization.

For the industry as a whole, the consequences can be even greater. A number of companies within the oil service has already cut its workforce. Offshore.no writes that the lower activity of drills allows more than 7,000 jobs could disappear.

– If we are a bit cautious, so we are up to 10,000 jobs. Then comes all of the service providers as well. I fear that 20,000 jobs could disappear in the industry overall, said Teige.

Vice President of Statoil, Mr Lindbæk Jr., would not comment on the calculations, but points out that the most important thing is to ensure greater long-term competitiveness.
