Serves up to 700,000 a month on crime for profit – Fædrelandsvennen

LONDON:-Wehavenotdetectedanysignificantdifferenceinthisincomeinthedifferentcities,saysLinnGjersing.

Shehaspreparedthereport”DruguseatstreetlevelinsevenNorwegiancities”,alongwithThomasAntonSandøysundet.ThereportconsistsofdatacollectedinOslo,Bergen,Stavanger,Sandnes,Trondheim,TromsøandKristiansand,andcomparesthesesubstanceabuseenvi-ronments.ThesurveysweredonefromSeptembertoNovemberin2013.

AccordingtoBergensTidendereportedsomeoftherespondentsanincomeof800millionfromtheftanddrugsales,meanwhileeasilyreportedtohavehadasignificantlyhigherincomeofbetween375,000and700,000million.Amongthosewhoreportedcrimeforprofitasrevenuesource,theaverageincomeinthesevencitiesof29,848kroner.

Notstableincome

-Thosewhostatethattheycarrywithproceedsofcrimeemphasizesthatthisisnotastablesourceofincome.Theymayhavegoodandbadmonths,anditisgenerallyalowlevelofrespondentswhohaveillegalsourcesofincome.ManyreceiveincomefromNav,begging,panting,sellingstreetmagazinesandwork,andsomesupplementthisincomewithcriminalactivity,saysGjersing.

MostnightlifeKristiansandnowprovidetheiremployeestrainedtoweedoutguestsusingorsellingdrugs.

Ofthe1020respondentsreported113peoplethattheyranwithproceedsofcrime,andamongthoseweretheonlythreepeoplewhosaidthiswastheirmainsourceofincome.

Injectingamphetamine

Inthesurvey,rusvaneneinthedifferentcitiessurveyed,anditwasespeciallyatypeofdrugthatmanyKristiansandhadused.

-Kristiansandstandoutwithahigherproportionofdrugabuserswhohaveinjectedamphetaminesinthelastfourweeks,butalsohadthehighestproportionofdruguserswhohadneverusedsyringes.Thereisalsoalowerproportionofoverdoses,butthismaybebecausewe’vetalkedtoamorestableKristiansandgroupthanintheothercities.Wetalkedtosomeolderaddicts,saysGjersing.

Sheandhercolleagueshavetalkedwith94drugaddictsinKristiansand.

Recordhighnumberofdrugcasesinthefirsthalf

Oslo(NTB):Inthefirsthalfofthisyearwasrecorded16,405drugcasesinNorway,whichisthehighestnumberofcaseseverrecordedinthefirsthalf.

-Wespoketoaround100peopleineachcity,withtheexceptionofOslowherewespoketo500SuchstudieshavebeenconductedinOslo’sdrugenvironmentsince1993,andwewantedtodoasurveyofothermajorcities.Thecriterionforwhoweinterviewedwasthattheyhadusedheavierdrugsinthepastfourweeks,shesaid.



Amphetamines,heroinandmorphine

InjectingamphetaminewassomethingmoreinKristiansandhaddonethelastfourweeks.

-Fortypercenthadinjectedamphetamines,meanwhilebarelyfivepercenthadinjectedheroin,whichisbyfarthelowestinoursurvey.Therewerealsotwelvepercenthadinjectedmorphine,saysGjersing.

Sheemphasizesthatthisisthefirsttimetheymakesuchaninvestigation,andthatitisthereforedifficulttosaywhethertheirinvestigationshowshowsubstanceabuseenvi-ronmentsare.Itwillbenecessarytorepeatthestudytoconfirmthatthereisnoquestionofchance.
