Refugees with such diseases were turned from Norway – Aftenposten

Refugees with such diseases were turned from Norway – Aftenposten

The government’s rejection of many sick Syrian refugees face strong reactions.

Here is the list of diseases to the Syrian refugees by the UN High Commissioner wanted Norway to accept, according to Immigration.

  • Physical handicap.
  • Cancer.
  • Miscellaneous blodsykdommer.
  • Hjerteproblemer.
  • Epilepsi.
  • Hørsel- and speech difficulties.
  • Mental lidelser.
  • Ryggproblemer.
  • Øyeskader.
  • Krigsskader and trauma .

Aftenposten wrote Monday that 123 Syrian refugees in the summer got no from Norway. Most were rejected because they or one of their family members were sick and needed medical attention.

KS: – Highly regrettable

– The local authorities are reluctant to accept people involving extensive challenges. The two main reasons are that the municipality lacks a service system and that economically can be very expensive, area director Helge Eide, KS.

– It turns right into the municipal budget, says Eide.

KS denotes the many rejections for Syrian refugees as “highly regrettable” from a national standpoint.

– It is hard to imagine countries other than Norway should have better conditions to accept the damaged refugees, says Eide. He believes several municipalities would have said yes to the injured refugees if they knew that this would not affect the services available to other residents.

– It should be possible to organize this so it was easier for municipalities to say yes Also for this group, says Eide.

Left and KrF react

screening of sick Syrian refugees leads to political trouble in Parliament, where government supporters in KrF and Left is very critical.

Solberg government has shown that screening based on the rules that the coalition government introduced already in 2010.

According to the rules of Immigration shall take into account “local government capacity to provide suitable offers . “

Aftenposten wrote this spring that UDI warned the government against municipalities lack capacity could lead to many sick Syrians were turned away.

Justice Department responded that UDI had to deal with that which refugees municipalities were able to receive, even if it meant that many sick people could get off.

After political Dish in Parliament was the Liberal Party and the Christian Democratic Party just for summer holidays with the Conservative Party and the Progress Party on a “review” of the rules.

– Now I expect the Attorney General informs Parliament, says Liberal leader Trine Skei Grande, who also believes “municipalities should go in himself.”

– We expect that a review should determine how Norway can act most human and help to ease the situation where we can, she says.

– It is shameful that Norway did not show greater compassion and charity in the face of some of the world’s most vulnerable, says KrFU leader Emil André Erstad.

– I expect KrF sets hardball in the face of government policy toward the sick, Syrian refugees, said Erstad.

– To sort the refugees from the medical needs they have is not Kr. Fs line. Refugees UN High Commissioner asked Norway to accept, is the most vulnerable refugees. Then we must take responsibility, says Christian Democrat MP Geir Jørgen Bekkevold.
