Increased wine sales-license despite increased tax-free allowance – Aftenposten

Increased wine sales-license despite increased tax-free allowance – Aftenposten

Duty free quota was increased on 1 July. Vinmonopolet sales figures for July show an overall increase in sales of 2.6 percent compared with July last year. The sales of wine increased 2.5 percent, while liquor sales fell 1.1 percent, writes Aftenposten.

Wine Monopoly warned earlier this year that the tax changes came to frame the state alcohol outlets. It happened thus not. Wine Monopoly mean nice weather and record heat contributed to sales growth, but also believe that sales could have been even greater had it not been for the increased duty-free quota.

– With such nice weather and high temperatures in July we were able to expected an even higher growth. Summer weather was great record, and July was the hottest month since records began in 1900, according to the Meteorological Department. Instead, we find that Vinmonopolet apparently has lost market share after tax changes on July 1, said Vinmonopolet communications director Halvor Bing Lorentzen.

Polet brands stiff competition from cross-border trade and duty free shops, according to a county list from Wine Monopoly. Lorentzen can not yet conclude on tax changes have had demonstrable impact on sales performance.

– We need a more normalized period to see the effect better than now. We know probably more in September, he said.
