Man in 70s is charged with murder on his wife. – This is a tragic case – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): A man in 70s sitting Wednesday morning in questioning, charged manslaughter after he late last night called the police and said he had shot and killed his own wife in their home in Østfold.

It tells police at a news conference at police headquarters in Sarpsborg at 11:30.

– This is a tragic case which affects both families and neighborhoods. We have spent a priest and has appointed a relative coordinator, said police inspector and head of joint criminal unit Tom Erik Guttulfrød.



– Has seized rifle

Police are working to find out what may have been motive in the case, and says they are trying to exclude someone else may be involved.

It was 23 o’clock last night that the man in the 70s even called the police. At address, the police found the deceased, arrested the man and seized a firearm.

– We have seized the murder weapon, a rifle. The man had a weapons permit, and police have not received any report of concern to the man’s weapon permit earlier, he said.

The elderly couple lived together.

– How long they’ve shared housing, I do not know, says police inspector.



Exclude accident?

– He is not known to the police earlier. It is important for the police to exclude that there are other linked to the circumstances, says Jamissen.

– Can you rule out that this was a tragic accident?

– That’s what we focus on finding out when we are interviewing: getting accused explanation and look at other options. We have started murder investigation and in addition we have a phone call that came in yesterday, where he stated that he had shot his wife says Jamissen.

A neighbor told Dagbladet that he saw and heard large police forces and paramedics come to the otherwise quiet street in the night.

He describes the neighborhood as an older and quiet villa. It lives much older people there.

– I know these people involved very well having lived in the neighborhood for many years. They were very helpful with everything from shoveling to what it might be. They were more interested in helping others than to keep track of his, says the neighbor.

The man will probably be produced for remand tomorrow, Thursday.
