(Dagbladet): – I am hungry and tired. But I will not eat or drink. Whether there is a solution to this, or I will die here.
It says Abdullrhman Altai (33). He was an intelligence officer for the Assad regime in Syria. This week he received a final rejection of the asylum application, because both the UDI and UNE believes he can be linked to torture.
Frustration
33-year old has asked to be sent to Syria, but have been told by the Norwegian authorities that it is impossible because Norwegian authorities fear he may be tortured or killed there.
In practice, he does not go elsewhere.
Thursday, he stopped eating in protest and frustration, and Friday he was hospitalized in Finnsnes in Troms.
– I got a new phone from UDI yesterday. They said that there is nothing they can do for me, he says to Dagbladet Sunday morning.
33-year old is he afraid of his wife and two children who are still in Syria.
– This is a political decision. I have not done anything wrong. If Norwegian authorities have anything against me, so they must say so. They must say that I am a criminal or that I am lying. They let me wait a year and a half. So I got rejected. And then I can not go from the country.
Asked to go to Turkey
33-year-old temporary stay in Norway, with restricted rights. The wife and two small children his remains in Syria, and he is not allowed to bring them here.
– Norwegian authorities can not send him to the homeland Syria while he was there risking severe reactions in conflict with our international human rights obligations, writes Deputy Ketil Larsen UNE in an e-mail to Dagbladet.
Altai says UDI has given him the message that they can help him find a job in Norway.
– This is not what I need help. I need to go to my family. To benefit from Norway.
The 33-year old has asked if he can be sent to Turkey, so that he can take to Syria from there. Norwegian authorities say no.
– There is no other country has a duty to take against him, and that Norwegian authorities can send him. He may stay in Norway while he is protected against return to Syria, Larsen writes in UNE.
Have not pass
The man said he had not passed in Syria, because it is not were allowed intelligence officers. He says he acquired a false passport in Turkey when he went out of the country, but that the human smuggler who helped him northward took it. He therefore has no travel documents.
– Syrian authorities will naturally not give him a passport, then he is a defector. And Norway will not give him any foreigner’s passport. In practice, he sits entrenched in Norway, with limited rights, without the ability to bring their families and without opportunities to travel to them, said the man’s lawyer, Bengt Høyer Pedersen Friday.
UNE say their decision not prevent him from leaving Norway if he finds a country that will take him against. But it is not so easy.
In Altai temporary residence permit states that he will get an entry ban if he leave the country. If he went out of Norway and sought a stay in another European country, they will normally try to send him back to Norway as a result of the Dublin Agreement. But then he will therefore have an entry ban, because he left the country in the first place.
– I’ve been told that I can not go to Sweden once, I will only be sent back here, says Altai.
– In practice, he can not go from Norway, says lawyer Pedersen.
