A big, bloated whale is washed into the pebbles in Turøy in Mountain outside Bergen, newspaper Bergens Tidende.
Øyvind Turøy who discovered the dead whale. Together with his son Olai (9) and relative Mikkel Turøy he took out to the carcass Friday morning.
– I stood and looked toward Sandøybotn and taken aback over the landscape, says Turøy.

He thought at first it was a life raft that had blown ashore. But when he approached the boat, he saw what it was.
A big, bloated whale lay pitched in the pebbles on Sandøy.
Feared destroyed bathing idyll
– It was quite a sight, says Turøy who called the Directorate of Fisheries to notify the inflated whale.
They promised to take the matter further.

Sandøybotn is a widely used recreational area for locals and visitors. Turøy fear that the whale may destroy seaside idyll.
– I have seen similar whales on Youtube that goes into the air. Not exactly a pretty sight, he says and adds:
– I’m a little concerned that the whale being towed to sea and sunk quickly.
Smells bad
– Bar whale signs of having been in the water long?
– Yes. It was not a fresh carcass. It bears the ravages of time, and we know rot smell in the area, he said.
– Is there a risk for people whose whale goes up?
– No. It lies deserted, but it is bloated and full of gas, quit Turøy.
Probably humpback or fin
According to a whale expert is not entirely obvious what whale it concerns .
– I guess one humpback or fin whales. But it’s hard to say because flippers whale does not appear on the picture, says Lars Walløe, whale expert and professor of physiology at the University of Oslo.
– How do you assess the condition of the dead whales?
– It’s full of gas. Sticking a few holes on the carcass spurts enough content, says Walløe.
It is not uncommon with gas in cadavers that get left alone for a while.
– Out on the ocean, where other animals helping themselves, the skin is punctured and the dead animal is not inflated, says Walløe.
To get out to the carcass on Sandøybotn must use a boat. In similar Whale Discoveries earlier, the dead animal dragged into deep water and sunk.
