The whale is upside down, smells bad and is becoming larger as it is located in the pebbles on Sandøybotn outside Bergen newspaper Bergens Tidende.
Several researchers fear that the carcass will explode as a result of gas generated inside.
– It’s full of gas. Sticking a few holes on the carcass spurts enough content, says whale expert and physiology professor Lars Walløe from Oslo University said.
Had the whale, which probably is a humpback or fin whales, remained at sea after the death, would other animals helped themselves and punctured the skin so that the gas would not gathered, the professor explains.
The family who discovered the whale has notified the Directorate of Fisheries on the matter. VG informs Agency that they have a plan for what to do with the inflated whale.
– I have been in contact with our partner, who lifeboat “Kristian Gerhard Jebsen.” They take a trip out to the area Saturday, when it gets light, says section chief Roger ÅSARMOEN of Fisheries Region west.
According to him planning lifeboat to tow the whale far out to sea and then probably blow it by shoot it with a harpoon.
