After over two weeks of waiting have control Standing Committee on Friday evening received answers they called in the inflamed asylum children case.
In a nine-page letter explains Attorney Anders Anundsen (FRP) for how it could happen that his instructions that asylum children who have lived in Norway was not sent further down in the police system.
- Read the full letter here, on Parliament’s website (pdf).
14. March sent Police Directorate a letter to the Justice Department where they requested clarification on how the allocation letter from Anundsen should be understood. POD wondering specifically how they should understand the new priorities when it came to long remaining children.
But the response from the ministry came no clarification that long remaining asylum children should no longer be prioritized by mailings.
Taking self-criticism
It takes justice minister now self criticism.
“In retrospect I see that we could have been even clearer in the feedback to POD, if one was unsure if there was a correlation between allocation type and letters, “writes Anundsen in his letter to SCSCA in Parliament.
They have requested access to all communications between the Ministry of Justice, National Police Directorate (POD) and Police Immigration Service ( PU) to clarify what the minister knew about the mailings.
Anundsen writes that he now will review and sharpen their procedures to ensure that control signals from the ministry are followed and sent further down in the system.
Raja: Still unclear if children are sent out erroneously
– I think the criticism from Anundsen police director was premature. Now it turns out that Anundsen have not even read the letter he criticized Humlegårdsvägen for not having been joined. The Minister of Justice should ask what it says about his own leadership, says Liberal Abid Raja Aftenposten.
– There is still doubt whether someone is sent out that should not be there. I believe that the issue with this is not over, but we will now sit down in committee and discuss, says Raja.
Got to know about the error of BT
It was Bergens Tidende (BT), which in early December revealed that political guidelines Ministry of Justice in January 2014 were not relayed from the Police Directorate in pamphlet which in March was forwarded to the Police Immigration.
Anundsen confirms in the letter that he was not aware that the signals were not relayed before he became familiar with the matter in BT.
The minister writes that the ministry received a copy of the leaflet to the Police Immigration, but that this was not read and that he therefore did not discover the error before the newspaper made him aware of it.
Does he gave correct information
The main question Control Committee will consider is whether the Attorney General has misinformed Parliament. Several opposition politicians have noted that Anundsen in Speech from the throne debate October 7. assured that asylum children who have lived in Norway no longer take precedence in return queue.
But at this point Anundsen not willing to take self-criticism. He writes in the letter that what he said in the parliamentary hall is “fairly and accurately correspond with the facts.”
If questions from Parliament
Whether Anundsen gave clear message concerning the policy was changed, is another question several of the committee members want answered. Specifically this involves a policy change where long remaining asylum children should not be given special priority and above others in broadcasting matters.
Aftenposten come back with more.
