Police asks for continued armament – Aftenposten

The Ministry of Justice gave last year granted permission to arm the emergency squad, police districts emergency units and other emergency responders with an acceptance test for service weapons.

The license is linked to PST heightened threat assessment which cites police officers and military personnel as particularly vulnerable and possible terrorist target.

The first permit was issued on 25 November 2014 for four weeks. It has subsequently been extended several times, most recently on June 2 this year. This permit is valid until August 2nd.

All parties except the government parties the Conservatives and the Progress Party asked Justice Minister Anders Anundsen (FRP) explain to the Storting on the temporary armament. Anundsen stated in its statement on June 2 that the threat situation from November 25 has not changed. (NTB)
