Prisoner has escaped from prison in Horten – Aftenposten

Police in Vestfold reported this morning that a man of North African origin have escaped from Horten prison.

– The prisoner jumped over the wall of the prison. We have ensured a surveillance video from the outside of the wall, showing that he was injured when he jumped over the wall and halter, said operations manager Jan Kristian Johnsrud.

The man is between 190 and 200 centimeters high, slim has black wavy hair and light brown complexion. The man was wearing glasses, black t-shirt and blue tracksuit bottoms, informs Vestfold Police.



Have escaped from prison earlier

The man is serving a short sentence for a drug matters and shall be convicted of violence or similar crime.

Operations Marius Knudsen (who took over for Johnsrud Monday afternoon) emphasizes that the police do not consider man as dangerous.

The North African man has previously escaped from a Norwegian prison.

– I do not know the details around this, but it’s true that he also previously escaped from a prison, says Knudsen.



Do not yet know his whereabouts

Knudsen says Monday afternoon that the prisoner is still on the run.

– There are no new developments in the case, says Knudsen told Aftenposten.

– What do by police throughout the night?

– We do not know where the man is located, and will not look for him throughout the evening unless we get new information about where he is, says Knudsen.

The police have alerted surrounding police stations about the escape, and this morning looking for the man in the center of Horten.

They encourage people who think they may have observed the man to contact.



The prison with a high security

Nordre Vestfold prison department Horten, a unit with a high security. The prison has annual capacity of 16 seats distributed on remand prisoners and convicts men, writes Correctional Service on its website.

Operations Johnsrud says to Gjengangeren that the man sitting in høysikkerhetsfengsel because he previously escaped from a low security prison.

– When this happens, the one sent to a høysikkerhetsfengsel says Johnsrud to Gjengangeren.

– In Norway, only two types of prison. One is “low security prison,” also known as “open jail”. The second is “høysikkerhetsfengsel” also known as “closed prison.” Most prisons in Norway is designated as “høysikkerhetsfengsel” explains Johnsrud.

– It should not be dangerous or convicted for violence cases to end up at a so-called “høysikkerhetsfengsel.”
