The survey shows that Norwegian police during six months last year requested access data from Facebook, Apple, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and Skype for 483 Norwegian users, the newspaper said.
Compared with the first half of 2013, the increase in the number of extradition requests 136 percent. Police were granted the claim in full or partial access to 330 user accounts, which constitute 68 per cent of cases.
In most cases, the police wanted to find out who is hiding behind an account and when it has been in use, the newspaper said.
– As a rule, we ask basic account information that’s not particularly intrusive data, where the purpose is to get identified who use an account, said Thomas Stærk, Head of internet related investigation support in NCIS.
– If an account is used to make a punishable offense, such as schedule crime, sending serious threats and like, so it is important to find out who the user is, he says. (© NTB)
