– I think Bar Association documents that the quality of asylum decisions is not good enough, says Kjell Ingolf Ropstad, KrF representative of the justice committee in Parliament.
In Our Land Bar Association Secretary General, Merete Smith, claimed that a few hours to legal aid and low legal fees makes legal safeguards for asylum seekers who want to use a lawyer, is not good enough.
Association’s Action and Procedure Group has taken 75 asylum cases to court. In 38 of them got the favor and asylum seekers in Norway. All the cases were rejected by the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE).

Have got right
– This shows that the need for legal assistance and the right information is huge. I mean Bar Association’s work has been important. They have ensured that people who have had right has got right, says Lene Vågslid (Ap) of the justice committee.
Labor will be pushing to strengthen legal aid scheme. It believes Vågslid must happen in cooperation with the Bar Association, Lawyers Association, Law bus and Legal Advice for Women (JURK).
– This is actors who are clear on what actions are needed going forward, she says.
Meanwhile she believes that Justice Minister Anders Anundsen must help to strengthen legal certainty.
Lover not
– I share their concern, and I see a need for more hours of free legal assistance but I dare not promise changes over the table, says Ropstad.
He worried work Directorate of Immigration (UDI) and (UNE) does, but still trust that they “do a good job in their assessments.”
– It should not be so only you have a good enough lawyer so you will stay. If you need protection, it should be such that the UDI and UNE take the right decision, says the Christian Democratic representative.

– When KrF requesting that the 80 asylum children were sent out last year should have his case reconsidered, said ye not that right their safety is too bad?
– No. The error was that the new regulations that came into place in December should have been in place much earlier. The question is whether it should be given retroactive effect on the new rules, says Kjell Ingolf Ropstad.

The Bar Association has invited several of the justice committee members to talks on fees rates. Ropstad and Anders B. Werp (H) are two of them.
– We are familiar with the Bar Association’s Action and Procedure committees report, and we will look into it. It is praiseworthy of the Bar Association to lift this up and make this visible. Some conclusions beyond what is too early to draw, says Werp.
In the state budget for 2015 writes the majority of the justice committee that they should “consider it (the fee editor.) In future budget processes.”
