Fortidsminneforeningen considering closing several of the country stave churches in the summer because of money problems.
– We need funds to operate sensibly and responsibly. Therefore, we consider shutting Nore Uvdal and Torpo stave churches in the summer, all in Buskerud County. It is the stave churches that go with deficits, says Secretary General Ola H. Fjeldheim in Fortidsminneforeningen Aftenposten.
Fortidsminneforeningen own including eight of the country’s finest stave churches, but the association has been deficit and struggling visit operations of many of the properties, the newspaper said.
– We need to do some drastic things forward. We hope to drop to close several large estates. In the long term, it may also be necessary to sell or dispose of properties, says Fjeldheim.
Fortidsminneforeningen hope now that the state can contribute assets as is the case with other museums.
Undersecretary Bjørgulv Vinje Borgundvaag Ministry of Culture told the newspaper that they are in dialogue with the union on this issue.
