Norwegian bridges need maintenance for 19 billion – Fædrelandsvennen

HOLMESTRAND : Each year collapses about ten bridges in the country, said Deputy Borre Stenvold NPRA to Dagens Næringsliv.

On Monday afternoon, it happened with Skjeggestad bridge on E18 by Holmestrand. What needs to be done to enable it and how much it will cost, is not yet clear.

Meanwhile needed according Public Roads maintenance for between 11 and 19 billion to get upgraded the roughly 17,300 bridges in national and county road network in the country. The director emphasizes that the bridges are safe to drive on.

The closed Skjeggestad bridge allows traffic chaired including via Holmestrand center, but according to NRK detour led to less queuing elsewhere.

– Normally we have queue on the E18 towards Oslo, but we have seen less traffic in recent days, saying traffic operator Tomas Onshuus Eriksen.

Whether it is directly related to the closed bridge, is not clear.

– But it might be that more people choose home or take the train to the advantage of longer path by car, says operator.
