Isolated over 40 months

Breivik was sentenced to 21 years in custody including a minimum in ten years for the two terrorist attacks on 22 July 2011.

Since the summer of 2011, Breivik sat on “especially high security” at Ila in Bærum and in Skien prison. It is Norway’s most stringent atonement regime and used in very few cases.

There are no restrictions on how long you can sit on such a department, but Correctional Services estimates that the few zones of especially high security on average has a sittetid at 12- 18 months. Breivik has sat isolated in over 40 months.

Breivik detention has a minimum term of ten years. The initial assessment of custody issue may come in 2021 when he is 42 years old.
