Thus the new Flesland – Bergens Tidende

The airport is four times as large as today and can take ten million passengers a year. About a year opens new Flesland.

– This is an ultra-modern airport. Here inhabitants of Western Norway finally the airport they deserve. We rejoice madly to open, said airport director Aslak Sverdrup Avinor.

On day one year before new Flesland open it was time to see what the new airport will offer. Opened Wednesday Avinor doors to what is still a construction site with a price tag of 4.7 billion.

  • New Flesland is 82,000 square meters against the current 22,000.
  • Out on airport covered it hydronic heating. That means the snow will not lie where the aircraft is parked.
  • In the basement of the terminal shall LRT get into, so you can take the lift straight up. This light rail stop open already in March / April next year.
  • The new terminal has a takarealpå 16,000 square meters. It is as big as the Brann Stadion times two.
  • The new terminal gets energy measures as savers two million kilowatt hours of energy a year.

today, over 600 people started building a new venue for us.

Much will be ready already for the New Year. When work begins to test all parts of the airport to the opening on August 17. Over 3,000 tests will be carried out before opening.

A lot of light and oak

The new terminal has large windows, lots of light and oak, both in the roof and inside the streets. No less than 10,000 square glass roofs and facades are used.

Part of the building is reminiscent of Gardermoen. It is also the same architectural firm behind – Nordic Office of Architecture.

– But we have learned from the mistakes that were made at Gardermoen and developed built on, said Sverdrup.

In terminal there shall be as many as 28 check-in counters.

But most important of all: Sverdrup laws that would mostly go faster than today at the new airport. The safety checks must have eight locks and be 45 meters wide, that is as wide as Torgallmenningen. The safety checks must no longer be the reason you go to Flesland in too good a time.

– We will not have such queues that currently promise Sverdrup.

Taking ten million

the baggage system can also take away twice as many suitcases per hour as today. Thus, you can probably leave the airport faster than now. A luggage hotel will make it possible to check in several hours before departure.

The management of the airport know very well that people are not satisfied with Flesland today. Terminal building from 1988 was built for 3.4 million people a year. Now traveling around six million throughout each year. Capacity is long since exploded.

– This has gone beyond the travelers and we have kept a low down on the list when people have rated travel experience at the airport. We are already seeing improvement in feedback, but we will lift ourselves vigorously, said Sverdrup.

The new terminal can theoretically take 7.5 million people, but will clear ten million. And when even more West Coast Norwegian going to travel in the future airport will be developed and will be even bigger.

– We can easily extend built southwards when needed. This is included in the plans, said Sverdrup.

Will mark Bergen

Inside the new terminal comes several new shops and restaurants. A matgarasje organized by the wave & amp; Moi is something of what is planned.

– Those who travel will notice that they are in Bergen and Western Norway. We shall have, inter alia goods and signarturretter that lets people know where they are, says airport director.

From places to dine after the check, you can also watch the planes easily and land out on the runway. The runway is also upgraded and developed with a price tag of 1.5 billion for the new airport.

Only for domestic

There are those who travel domestically as able to take advantage of the beautiful premises . Those going abroad must to the old terminal. There you can go on dry ground through a second time that connects terminals.

– The old terminal will be converted to a proper level as fast as possible. People should not have the feeling of going through a time machine when they travel abroad, said Sverdrup.

He expects that traffic will increase immediately when the new airport opens its doors. Already today there are airlines who knocks at Norway’s second largest airport, but must be rejected due to lack of capacity in Bergen.

– Bergen is a popular place to have a direct connection to. For inhabitants of Western Norway, the new airport probably means more new routes, said Sverdrup.
