The roof collapsed at Sentrum Scene – 15 injured – VG

Central under a mentor concert began portions of the roof at Sentrum Scene in Oslo falling over BI students.

Just after 17.30 got police in Oslo a dramatic message. The roof had collapsed into a concert hall filled with hundreds of students. A large number of ambulances, police patrols and fire trucks come out.

Outside were several bloody students, who received medical assistance on the ground. Others were full of blood.

In 18 o’clock could Oslo police advise that 15 people are easier hurt.

One of the injured is taken to Ullevål. The 14 others are sent to the emergency room for treatment.

– Five were transported on a stretcher, none of them is as of now critically injured, but it may change, says operations manager for Health, André Tiller.

Sentrum Scene was packed with around 1800 BI students then a several centimeters thick layer of plaster loosened several places, according to the fire department in Oslo . They were there as part of a fadderukearrangement where the American electronica artist Steve Aoki appeared.



I think it could have gone much worse

The three comrades Andreas Wangen, Eivind Wenner and Roman Matusevich stood only a few feet away from where the roof began to race.

– Total chaos

The student Mir Joseph tells of dramatic seconds.

– It was totally sick. The concert was started and then suddenly falling parts of the roof down. People were hit in the head. People began to pull away and then fell even more of the roof down, says Josef.

– I saw people who were hit in the head and people who received the remains of the eyes. So went the fire alarm and people ran out.

Hermann Lauridtsen was hit by smaller the remains, but as the student next to him being hit in the head.

– I’ve been so insanely lucky that I dare not think about it, he said.

Opens phone line for students

Yngve Kveine is communications director at BI. He says that the school will be open both in the evening and at night.

– How can students and parents come here to work and talk about the situation. Our goal now is to take care of the students in the best way, he says.

It also opened a phone line that students can call.

Further he says that students have handled the adverse event in a good way.

– They have dealt with the emergency services and keep his cool, he says.

Kveine are unsure whether the planned upcoming events for BI will go as planned.

– We must decide tomorrow, he said.

VG has talked to the owner of Sentrum Scene, Hans Arnt Lier.

– We are very sorry for what happened, and it’s incredibly sad that someone took damaged. The evacuation went smoothly and quickly, and we are pleased that it went so well as it did. Now we are trying to determine the cause, and we are a close team working on it now. We are awaiting police investigation, he said.



Must ensure the danger of more landslides

The fire department is working to secure rather than more landslides. It has not collapsed beams or other large objects, says the Technical Manager for the fire department on site, Øystein Eriksen.

Sentrum Scene is part of the Rockefeller Music Hall Company and holds approximately 1750 spectators.

Fire and rescue agency says on Twitter that there is a 1.5 to 2 cm thick layer of plaster that has fallen from an area in the ceiling of about one square meter.

Crime Guard in Oslo police are inside the Sentrum Scene to find out what caused the incident.

– It seems as if reason is complicated, but the investigation will reveal this. This concerns in all probability on the construction, and it is difficult to load organizer for this, says Rune Bjørsvik, police efforts leader on the spot said.

Oslo Fire and Rescue Department informed Dagbladet that a fixture in the ceiling lighting rig come loose, and it resulted in a hole about one meter in diameter.

Steve Aoki informed audience

Max Emanuelson was photographer for the event and he was going up on stage at the other end of the room from where the roof collapsed.

– Security guards reacted quickly and before many of us who were present at the concert. They informed it on to audio and lysteknikerne that stopped the concert and turned on the light. It was a very orderly affair.

Emanuelson also told Steve Aoki informed the public that the roof had collapsed.

After the accident, the American artist out a message on Twitter.

In another twitter message he wished the injured a good recovery.

– People remained calm until the fire alarm came on. When they reacted. Some were very afraid. It looks dramatic when people are bleeding from the head. And it puts yet another shock in young people, said Emanuelson who was on site.

When he shortly after came out of the room he was greeted ambulances, police and fire departments in droves.

– Although this is a boring situation, I am impressed by the organizer and the team around that deal with it very well and efficiently.



Sentrum Scene sorry

– We are terribly sorry for the accident that happened at Sentrum Scene today. Pieces of plaster from a limited area (1 m 2) of the ceiling fell and injured youngsters who were guests at the event.

It is written in a press release from the Sentrum Scene.

– We have been informed that fortunately is not critically injured. We commend all the staff and guards who were working for their efforts in assisting guests and evacuating Sentrum Scene in a fast and safe way.

They also write that they are very concerned about security and that it should be safe to go to a concert in the concert hall.

– Our thoughts are with those affected by the disaster and to all the young people who were on a basically positive and enjoyable event.

Now awaiting the Police and other technical investigations to find out why the plaster fell from the ceiling.
