Police reported just after half past four in the smoke in a tunnel at Oslo S, between tracks 9 and 10. Just before four o’clock notified Firefighting and rescue agency in Oslo on Twitter that it was no longer smoke in the tunnel.
– We have received notification of smoke, but not fire inside a tunnel. There has been an electrical short circuit. An error has caused overheating. We have to control this, says Gjermund Stokkli, operations manager of the Oslo police told NRK.
A train with 150 passengers were inside the tunnel when it was reported smoke. Another train was sent in to evacuate the passengers. The time 16.15 am train with evacuees safely transported back to Oslo.
Tonight at 18.30 was all tunnels at Oslo reopened. But there are still delays in traffic.
Thanks charred bird
National Rail believes the cause of the power failure is a bird that has flown about 20 meters into the tunnel at Oslo S and hit high-voltage system that supplies the trains with drive current.
– We have found something charred, which is probably the remains of the bird, said pressevakt Jernbaneverket, Harry Korslund.
It is not the first time this happens but Korslund emphasizes that the consequences are extra large when power disappears amid the worst rush hour traffic at Oslo on a Friday afternoon.
without electricity
at 17.15 o’clock was still one of two tracks in the tunnel at Oslo S without power.
– we do not know how long it takes to rectify the error, says Korslund.
Travelers can therefore be expected delay also throughout the evening, although all trains now running.
Waited with granddaughter
Travelers should expect delays and cancellations. NSB sets up buses.
One of those who got in trouble today was Kristiane Burn.
I and granddaughter going to Lillehammer, but so far we have only waited on the platform. We have the impression that NSB is trying to resolve the situation, but we do not know when our train yesterday, says Burn.
