ARENDAL (VG) Djupedal (55) does not recognize the SV he helped to build. Now he wants to help the Labour Party to win elections.
There have only been a few days since Djupedal in an interview with Agderposten revealed that he – after 38 years in the party – has announced the transition from SV to Labor.
– The break my with SV can be illustrated as a controlled divorce. We have grown apart, says former Minister and Deputy Chairman of the Socialist Left Party, Djupedal, when VG met him at the pier in Arendal.
For six years, the former innpiskeren Kristin Halvorsen been Fylkesmann in Aust-Agder . This fall he replaced against their will. Meanwhile, he has now left the party that he helped to lead to government power.
Voiced Labor since 2011
The decision to switch party was not taken overnight. Djupedal has over several years doubted his political affiliation.
– I have realized that I am a social democrat for a while ago. I voted Labour in government elections in 2013 and shared my voice between Labor and the Socialist Party in 2011, says Djupedal.

– Are you bitter at the party?
– No, I’m not bitter and carries neither grudge against anyone in the party. I’ve just added SV behind me and do not come to see me back, he said.
Yet he finds very few bright spots in SV, a party which for a long time have floundered under the threshold. The Bible and football references, sitting metaphors closely:

– What do you have to say about leadership?

– Oh, absolutely. Very many have done a much better job. When we came into government in 2005 and continued in 2009, we were not well enough prepared. It suggests that this government is, says Djupedal.

No “Plan B”
