Redningsskøyta: – Direct dangerous to be at sea – Aftenposten

Meteorologists warn against both storm, high water, six feet high waves, avalanche risk and difficult driving conditions – to mention a few.

Tuesday afternoon it blew gale several places in western Norway, and it is expected to storm off the coast of Rogaland. Along the coast there may be waves at around six feet, writes Yr.no.



– Harmful to go out

Skipper Arne Christensen Redningsskøyta RS Seaman, were out at sea around Stavanger Tuesday evening, telling NTB about hazardous conditions.

– We were a walk out by Jåttåvågen and where it blew so hard that it was downright dangerous to be at sea, or do work there. There was a wind velocity of 28 meters per second, he said.

– When the wind blows so well on the coast there are no major reasons to go out, said duty meteorologist in Bergen, Martin Granerød.

Especially in Nordhordland and Hardanger trees blown and overturned several places, writes BergensAvisen.

Several roads closed

The storm rages

The storm will ravage the coast from Østfold, via Southern and Western Norway to Stad – and will vary between small storm and storm.

High water levels

In Sogn og Fjordane and Møre og Romsdal is expected southerly storm on the coast and in the mountains. Strong wind and snow will give difficult driving conditions in the mountains. Wednesday night is expected high water, 70-80 centimeters above tide table, says the OBS notification.



Take precautions

Strong winds and high water does not provide at least challenges for boaters who are encouraged to take a second look at moorings and lashings of tarpaulins before the wind take proper roof.

The insurance company IF is also out with a list of precautions they believe people should take before the storm arrives.

Among the points is to make sure that gutters, drains and grates are cleaned of leaves so that water drains away properly. Also drain inside the house should be inspected and cleaned.

Large cars, caravans and campers should also be moved to leeward as they have such a large surface that they virtually will act as a sail in the wind. (© NTB)
