The survey, conducted by Norstat for NRK showed that 55 percent of respondents are opposed to a permanent, lasting arming of police in Norway.
The leader in Norwegian Police Federation (PF), Sigve Bolstad, says to NRK that it looks like the battle is lost in this round.
– We believe that it is time to work harder for a general armament. But I also records the political landscape, and the probability is high for an answer as it is today. It must just realize, says Bolstad.
Labor has made it clear that they will vote for a representative proposal from Left, and hence there is a majority in parliament against general armament.
