Evacuation after gas leak at Melkøya – Dagbladet.no

Gas alarm at Melkøya outside Hammerfest according Finnmark Dagblad triggered today at 9:50. 33 people were in the plant when the leak happened and they were quickly evacuated. No one was hurt.

Ørjan Heradstveit, media relations for Statoil’s oil and gas production on the Norwegian continental shelf, says that the alarm went off in connection with a pump in one of the main systems in the process to be tested.

– This pump failed during the test. There was no injuries in the incident, and the plant was immediately evacuated, he says to Finnmark Dagblad.

To Dagbladet he says a little after 11am that the situation is now under control.

– The current review depressurization. We quickly got control at the point where the leak occurred, said Heradstveit, who can not say anything about when the plant will be started again.
