Around 30 people have lost their lives in Norway after spending the synthetic amphetamine-like drug PMMA. This is one of several synthetic drugs that are in circulation.
– On the substance Norway has a sad world record, said Dr. Andreas Westin at St. Olav’s Hospital Aftenposten.
Synthetic cannabis is among the other artificially produced drugs that exist in this country. Sunday stated Westin Trønder-Avisa that the first death with synthetic marijuana that cause of death is confirmed in Norway. There was a man in his 20s who died of drug earlier this year.
But there may be other Norwegians also have died from having used synthetic marijuana in the past but that the cause of death has not been discovered, says Westin.
– These are substances that are hard to find at autopsies. In addition, there are many synthetic drugs in circulation that we even do not know, say superior. He warns strongly against using synthetic drugs.
– There has been much debate lately about the legalization of drugs, but in this case it is very easy to be categorical. Synthetic drugs are very dangerous, he said.
Such drugs are easily accessible via the web and can be difficult to catch up on drug testing. Many synthetic drugs are also in a legal gray area.
