Matministeren: – Food in Norway is for animals – Dagbladet.no

Food and Agriculture Minister Sylvi Listhaug (FRP) think food has become too expensive in recent months.

– A weaker Norwegian krone can probably explain some of this, but there is every reason for consumers to keep up with inflation so no chains chimney at this, saying Listhaug to Aftenposten.

According to Statistics Norway foods become 5.4 percent more expensive in the last four months.

Food prices rose sharply also last summer. When food prices rose by 3.2 percent in just one month. Since then Listhaug followed closely the grocery market. Now she works including drawing up the law on good trade practice.

– We have high food prices in Norway and therefore jobs the government to look at the entire value chain and how competition can be strengthened, says Listhaug.

She points out that Coop earlier this year received permission by the Competition Authority to buy ICA. Thus, now Norway no longer four major mataktører, but only three.

– With only three grocery chains, there is every reason to follow the competition closely. In addition, we have strong concentration on the supply chain, says Listhaug.
