The Directorate conducts with this the biggest lift to enable stave churches, newspaper Nationen.
– Stave churches are our most important heritage. Cultural Heritage wants all the churches to be disseminated to the public in some way, said Acting Deputy Director Christer Vinje Gimse in Cultural Heritage.
The amount of 130 million contained in Cultural Heritage stave program and come from Climate and Environment Ministry. The money goes to restoration, not maintenance, stressing Gimse. The work includes preservation of church art and decor and will be completed this year.
The work will involve a national competence involving many artisans, adding Gimse to.
Some of the stave churches are already completed, while work is under way elsewhere. It has been compiled maintenance plans for several of the churches that have been completed.
