Risk of avalanches in southern Norway – NRK

Avalanche Alerts Karsten Müller says that they are expecting a great deal of avalanche activity in several regions of southern Norway, and he is asking those who plan to go on a trip, to exercise caution after the last two weekends have been closer to 20 slides with skiers involved.

– Avalanche situation in southern Norway will be complex for the upcoming excursion weekend. We recommend to closely monitor the situation and avoid seeking avalanche terrain, it also involves outlet areas for avalanches, says Müller.

In Trollheimen, Sunnmøre, Romsdal, Sogn, Jotunheimen and Hallingdal is now considerably, avalanche risk.

in Northern Norway, which has had a very warm week, the avalanche risk moderate.

High air temperature and solar radiation causes a lot of water in the snow, which also increases risk of avalanches. The weather will also provide noticeably increased water flow in streams and rivers that drain snowy areas.

According to NVE water flow with current meteorological forecasts will most likely be less than a normal spring flood in both North and South Norway the nearest week.
