Fewer trade union itself – Aftenbladet.no

In an article published in the latest issue of the journal Focus on working life scientists show that the organization level falls most in the 35-44 age group. Overall, the organization rate declined from 57 percent in 1995 to 52 percent now.

In the public sector holds the organization remains high, with a fall of 1 percentage point, from 80 to 79 percent. Most of the decline has occurred in the private sector, from 44 to 37 percent. Scientists reject the myths that there are young people and immigrants are to blame for the decline in the organization level. Organization rate among these two groups is admittedly low, but stable.

– There are many reasons why organizational level goes down. Two of the reasons are changes in company size and structural changes in the sense that there are fewer manufacturing jobs and more service jobs, says researcher Kristine Nergaard at Fafo Dagsavisen.

Nergaard thinks there are no worries for the big jobs which has had a tradition of unionisation. But she fears on the other side that the labor market can be divided into two, with large, well-organized workplaces and public sector wage agreements with the benefits it provides, while other more fragmented industries, often in the service sector, will not be able to offer the same rights, but only what is legal.
