Europol came jeweler thieves in over 100 mil through Estonia and Sweden. I … – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): Four Estonian men had hatched a plan to break into the jeweler’s shop “Precise Clocks & Gold” in Bodø on Saturday night.

In order to obtain gold and jewels, drove men over 100 mil through green forests from Estonia to Bodø.

The problem for the thieves were just that Europol, with help from police from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Poland and Sweden, already from those sat in the car in Estonia, kept a watchful eye on the men that is criminal acquaintances of Europol and Estonian police.

Early Sunday cut the men through the roof of the shopping center City Nord, and took down the goldsmith shop using a rope.

But accidentally triggered the alarm. Then fled the place, unaware that police had followed them all the way from Estonia to Bodø.

This led to police in Salten police district, after several days of surveillance, could apprehend the four Estonians with his pants down after the failed burglary attempt.

– They were taken with my pants down, and to the point, says Øystein Røsnes, police superintendent at Salten police district, told Dagbladet.

It was Avisa Nordland which first reported the case.

Got span of

Police in Salten was contacted by Europol via NCIS that four named Estonians were on their way Thursday night. They were then in the process of leaving of Sweden and had courses Salten.

Early Friday morning the car was seen by police on E6 in Salten. Police then followed the car into Bodø.

– The quality of the intelligence information we get beyond Friday is so good that the chief decides to establish surveillance of car and people, said police superintendent Røsnes.

Over the weekend, police follows the four men closely. According to Europol and police in Salten was the suspected active in its operations over the weekend to prepare for the break. They watched the mall, bought tools and other equipment necessary to carry out the burglary.

Early Sunday morning turns thieves. But after cutting through the roof and hoisted himself down the rope, triggering men alarm accidentally. Police from Salten stayed all the time in the mall four walls and hanging back.

After the alarm went, escaped the robbers up through the roof. Two of the men sat in a car they had standing in the parking lot a few days, while the other two took to the hotel they had stayed on in Bodø.

– We been hanging back, to see if the experiment was a test. After a while we found out that there was a real and botched robbery attempt. When we jumped, and arrested all four-handed, saying Røsnes.

Cooperation across borders

This is one of the problems the EU / EEA cooperation entails. Free movement of goods, capital, services and labor, also provides people with misdeeds in mind easier access to Norway.

– In my opinion this is the right way to confront this problem. This case we had never been able to solve without cooperation among countries. Europol is a pioneering figure and their work has in this case been brilliant, says Røsnes.

Four burglary of 6 years

This is not the first time goldsmith shop “Precise Clocks & Gold ‘experience receiving unwanted visitors. The shop has experienced no less than four burglaries since March 2009.

In 2009, broke three Lithuanians in the same way as Estonians took advantage of Sunday. They cut holes in the roof and used a ladder to take off in the store. They were joined watches, gold and diamonds to about 800 000, according to police in Salten.

In September 2009, took three poles into the store. Also they cut holes in the ceiling. They were joined by values close to 2 million.

– Both conditions in 2009 were solved. Two Lithuanians and Polish were sentenced to several years in prison in Norway, says Røsnes.

In 2013 tried four military-clad and masked men to settle into the store with a sledgehammer. The front door to the shopping center had to yield to the sledgehammer, but the reinforced glass of the store was too big a challenge. They abandoned the attempt and escaped.

– This case has not police solved, says Røsnes.

Police have now, naturally enough, a suspicion that there is a connection between all the burglaries in the store known for selling expensive and exclusive merchandise.

In 2009 took place a rebuilding of the shopping center City Nord. Police know that workers in contracting companies were mainly Eastern Europeans.

Examines hypothesis

Police suspect that Eastern Europeans, both from Poland, Lithuania and Estonia, who have worked for construction companies that undertook the reconstruction of the shopping center, may have participated in or enlightened criminal about the business and the building vulnerable roof.

– It is important to emphasize that we do not have any justified suspicion, but that we examine the hypothesis that this may be associated with all the burglaries, said Røsnes.

Røsnes stating that such buildings are more readily available under reconstruction phases. Scaffolding and ladders on the site can be helpful, and well uplight police that the security of such a construction phase is not as good as usual.

– City North, and jewelery store, is painfully aware of the risk of burglary. And in police eyes, the security handled in a good way, says Røsnes.

All the four arrested were prepared for custody Tuesday. It was filed imprisonment for 4 weeks. One of them consented to detention, police said. They are all charged with attempted grand larceny.
