Heard screams during Karmsund bridge – search ended – VG

Witness Kenneth Loop heard a terrible scream at the bridge that binds Karmøy with the mainland.

– I was driving home from Karmøy and was the middle of bridge when I heard a terrible scream. It was really intense. So loud that it drowned out everything, even the radio that stood on, says Kenneth Loop VG.

He was the first witness called the police and told about the event.

– I was about the middle of the bridge, so I had to drive over, turn around and drive back. Then I put on the emergency lights and checked with flashlight while I called the police and went along the edge, says Loop.

– I’m still shaky.

It was at 21.25 on Friday evening that the police received message about the event. All emergency services were on the spot where the police are trying to find out what has happened.

At midnight, however, the search ended without finding.

– Lifeboats have applied under the bridge. There have been northerly flow and skate have also sought the south and north of the bridge. The search is now completed without discovery, but it comes new information we are ready to scramble, says operations Trond Friberg Haugaland and Sunnhordland police, VG.

Loop tells that he saw some people even, but the police is now calling people for other witness descriptions. He is no doubt that the event has set a fright in him.

– It was incredibly disgusting. Just as one heard someone who was terrified of something, he said.

According Loop it did not take many minutes before emergency services were on site.

– We got a message from someone who had run across the bridge and heard some horrific screams from a human, said operations Oddvar Olsen who was on duty before Operations Friberg.

– We keep all options open. There is a high bridge and we have put all available resources on the case, says Olsen.

Police have sought contact with the driver, possibly passenger who stood up on the bridge around half past nine o’clock Friday night.

– There has been some sightings of a car, but we do not know if it has any context. It is a very busy bridge, says Operations Manager.

Both police, rescue skate and ambulance are on site.

– I think I’ve never seen so much blue light before in my entire life, says Loop.

HRS was out with “Bergen County” which has a small rescue boat (man-overboard boat).

– Nothing is confirmed, but based on what witnesses say, we must check it, said duty rescue leader Nils Ole Sunde JRCC to Haugesund newspaper.

Karmsund bridge goes over Karmsundet is 691 meters long and 45 meters at the maximum.
