Aung San Suu Kyi hailed his father – Fædrelandsvennen

On Friday it was exactly one hundred years since Aung San was born. During the celebration in his birthplace Natmauk had several thousand people took part to honor the memory of freedom campaigner who was killed in 1947.

– If we want to preserve the legacy of my father, we must build a truly democratic state said Aung San Suu Kyi in his speech.

Aung San played an important role in the struggle which led to independence from Britain, and he is highly respected in Myanmar today. Aung San Suu Kyi spoke about the danger a number of times in the campaign before she was elected to the National Assembly in 2012.

Later this year myanmarerne again go to the polls and the election is considered an important test of democratization that has characterized the country in recent years. (© NTB)
