Fewer collisions between ships and quays – Sunnmørsposten

It shows NMD accident statistics.

– NMD welcomes the downturn, and will follow the trend going forward to see if it sticks. However, it is shipowners’ responsibility to follow up on the prevention of contact damage, and their focus on a good safety management system, good education and good maintenance is important to see a further improvement in the figures and NMD will follow up this work in their supervision, says deputy director Alf Tore Sørheim in subdivision for inspection and readiness in NMD.

the list of accidents involving commercial vessels showed a slight decrease in the total number of accidents, from 255 to 233. there is a clear decline in the number of accidents involving fishing vessels and a smaller decrease in accidents involving cargo and passenger ships.

the number of groundings has increased slightly, from 35 to 42. Four people were killed in ship accidents in the first half of this year, one less than in the same period last year. (© NTB) (© NTB)
