Fire in cattle barns in Verdal – Adresseavisen

Just after the clock 21 Monday night it was reported that a cattle barn on landslide in Verdal was on fire. Approximately 260 animals were inside the barn.

Emergency services arrived quickly to the spot. Rescuers and volunteers worked diligently to get out all the animals, and at 21.33 notified police on Twitter that all the animals were out of the barn.

– A calf had to be euthanized

A tractor was used to tear down part of a wall to get the animals out. Both tractor and barn is completely destroyed.

Both veterinary and ambulance arrived on site in case anyone needed assistance in connection with exposure to smoke.

A calf had to be euthanized because of burns. Otherwise there was no damage to people or animals.

– Neighbors made a heroic effort to save the animals. Now they’ve got the animals out, and so the challenge is to keep those under control, said operations manager Jan Tore Tiltnes in Trøndelag Police to Adresseavisen.

Massive smoke

– The smoke could be seen from across Verdal, said Adresseavisens photographer Leif Arne Holme when he was made aware of the fire. When he arrived at the place, he saw that it burned below the roof and that it rose massive smoke up from the barn.

– All animals have been rescued. They run around the fields at the barn, he said further, and could count dozens of volunteers who helped to keep the cattle together.

It is uncertain what caused the fire.

– the fire started in the east end of the barn, said efforts Stig Viken to Adresseavisen.
